Starlink does not allow port forwarding
Starlink does not allow port forwarding. So the normal way that Brownrice pulls video from a webcam will not work. The easiest way around this is to purchase a webcam that supports the RTMP push protocal. Alternatively you can use video encoding software to pull your video from your normal RTSP camera and then have the encoding software push (or send) the video to Brownrice.
RTMP Push cameras
The simpliest solution is to purchase a Ready Set Stream camera directly from Brownrice. These cameras are pre-configured to push RTMP video right to your Brownrice streaming account. Once you receive the camera from us you'll power it on and plug it directly into your Starlink router and video will immediately start streaming to our servers.
Some camera types support RTMP push natively but this is far from common. We have found that Amcrest "AI" cameras typically support RTMP push. You can purchase an Amcrest AI camera directly from Amrest. Look for camera's with "AI" in the name. We can't guarantee that all Amcrest AI cameras with AI on the name support RTMP push (we've purchased and tested three) so you'll need to reach out to Amcrest to confirm cameras that have RTMP push built-in. Once you receive it and get it online on your network, contact us and we'll give the settings to connect put into the camera so that it streams to your Brownrice account.
OBS streaming
If you already have a camera that does not support RTMP push then you can configure video encoding software to pull video from that camera and have the encoding software push the RTMP video to Brownrice. You'll need a computer on the same network as your camera that runs the software 24/7. Warning: This is high level tech stuff and if you aren't very competent with technology we do not recommend this route.
